Blasterjaxx Release First New EP Since 2013

The dutch duo “Blasterjaxx” are back, with their brand new EP “XX Files” featuring the classic sounds of one of House music’s biggest names. Released through their sublabel of Spinnin’ Records “Maxximize”, it’s the pairs’ first EP release since 2013’s Koala and it was definitely worth the wait.

The EP kicks off with one of the previously released singles “Collide,” a song that is tailor made to open sets with. It has all the traits of a festival banger, and it would not be a shock to hear it out at a show this summer. Two more tracks worth highlighting are the songs “More” and “Revelation”. “More” features vocals from Mister Blonde, and it definitely is a step out of what would be considered the “norm” for Blasterjaxx. It’s probably the most interesting song on the EP, with vocals resembling something along the lines of a Lorde song. Vocalist “HALIENE” continues her current hot streak on the track “Revelation.” The up and coming pop singer has already scored features on songs for Gareth Emery, Illenium and Breathe Carolina with a feature on ATB’s upcoming album still on the way. Her vocals on “Revelation” are, for lack of a better phrase, a revelation. HALIENE’s voice stands out, with the production on the song acting more as support for her to soar. It’s also not the standard House or Hardstyle Blasterjaxx sound, as they dip their toes more into future bass on this one. There’s a mixed bag of songs here, but the overall theme of the “XX Files” is very dark. “Double Lives” is one of the gloomier songs though featuring a catchy melody, while “Neptune” and “Nightfall” close the EP with deep house and hardstyle. This is absolutely a solid output by Blasterjaxx, with plenty of songs to throw on your workout playlist, and we are certainly keeping our eyes out for what’s to come.
