DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ’s Voting Starts Today!
Lube up those corneas, we might have a lot of eye-rolling to do come October.
It is that slightly awkward time of the year however when DJ Mag puts out a poll to get a whiff of who the world thinks the best DJ is. In the past the controversial list has been the subject of scrutiny due to it’s questionable ranking system. Since it is sourced from a poll it has no real way of judging a DJ’s actual ability behind a mixer, and is instead merely a gauged on global popularity.
Which is why I think it sucks. In 2015 the top DJ was apparently Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and featured relatively generic big-room festival names scattered through the top 10. It was a decision that sprung a lot of questions about the credibility of DJ Mag, defying the inherently underground nature of dance music by rubbing it in who was currently trickling in the mainstream. Call me a snide hipster but seeing Afrojack rated above A-Trak as a DJ is like eating fire ants for me.
It was just last year that Martin Garrix pushed DV&LM out of the first place spot. Wasn’t Animals like, so 2013 ago??
Whatever, I really should be positive about this. 2017 has luckily graced us with incredible music made by a strong force of people both new and old. It’s hard to predict how this year’s Top 100 will turn out, but you can make a difference for your favorite DJ by voting them yourself!
